Stockholm’s New AI Powerhouse: Meet Pit

Swedish startup Pit is emerging as a notable force in the Stockholm tech ecosystem. Founded by the creators of European scooter leader Voi—including CEO Fredrik Hjelm—and supported by engineers from iZettle and Klarna, Pit has just raised a $16 million seed round led by renowned VC firm a16z.

Enterprise-Focused AI Solutions

Pit sets itself apart by developing AI-driven tools that learn an enterprise’s workflows and build tailored software automation. CEO Adam Jafer, who left Voi after helping it scale to nearly 1,000 staff across 13 countries, identified the potential for AI to replace repetitive processes and support teams in focusing on core business objectives. Instead of producing generic chat tools, Pit operates as an “AI product team as a service.”

The company’s offerings revolve around two core products:

  • Pit Studio: Enables employees to visually document workflows for AI-powered automation.
  • Pit Cloud: Delivers enterprise-grade, secure, and auditable AI software.

Pit’s pilot projects target telecom, healthcare, logistics, and other industries, concentrating on internal operations rather than customer-facing solutions. The aim is to save time, reduce human error, and allow staff to tackle higher-value work.

Scaling with Experience and Inclusion

Pit’s founding team features a mix of Voi’s co-founders and experienced engineers, with support from notable investors and Nordic business families. Though early team posts about a lack of junior engineers raised eyebrows, CEO Jafer now advocates for a balanced team as the company grows. Gender diversity is being addressed, albeit gradually.

Global Ambitions with European Focus

With experienced leadership and a cross-continental investor base, Pit is well positioned to cater to Europe’s industrial sector, especially as clients look for adaptable, non-U.S.-centric tech solutions. The company’s flexibility to use preferred AI and cloud providers has caught the attention of businesses and CIOs who want to keep operations local when possible.

While Voi CEO Fredrik Hjelm remains involved, his primary focus stays on Voi, which continues to post strong financial results and is seen as a potential IPO candidate.

As Pit moves to scale up, it is hiring solution engineers to ensure successful enterprise adoption, staying hands-on with clients to unlock productivity and quality improvements through automation.
