OpenAI launches ChatGPT for personal finance, will let you connect bank accounts

OpenAI has unveiled a suite of personal finance features for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the U.S. This new offering enables users to connect their bank and investment accounts, giving them access to a dashboard to track spending, review portfolio performance, manage subscriptions, and stay on top of upcoming payments—all within ChatGPT.

Easy Account Integration

With support from OpenAI’s partnership with Plaid, users can securely link accounts from over 12,000 financial institutions, including Chase, Fidelity, Schwab, Robinhood, American Express, and Capital One. The connection process is straightforward—users can start by selecting “Finances” in ChatGPT’s sidebar or typing “@Finances, connect my accounts” within a conversation.

Personalized Financial Insights

Once accounts are connected, users gain insight into their financial health through a range of tools. They can ask ChatGPT questions like, “Am I spending more than usual?” or “What steps do I need to take to buy a house in five years?” The dashboard provides a clear view of spending habits, subscription management, and upcoming bills.

Privacy and Control

Users maintain control over their data. Connections can be managed or removed at any time from the Settings under Apps > Finances. Disconnected data is erased from ChatGPT within 30 days. Users can also review and delete specific financial data directly from their account page.

Expanding Financial Tools in ChatGPT

This launch follows OpenAI’s recent acquisition of the team from personal finance startup Hiro, which contributed financial expertise to the product’s development. The company also announced plans to add support for Intuit, expanding the tool's ability to analyze tax implications of investments or estimate approval odds for credit cards.

Availability and Future Plans

The personal finance features are currently available on ChatGPT's web and iOS platforms for Pro users. OpenAI plans to refine the tools based on user feedback before expanding access to Plus users.
