Alexa+ gets new food ordering experiences with Uber Eats and Grubhub
Amazon has introduced an upgrade to Alexa+, its advanced AI assistant, allowing users to order food directly from Uber Eats and Grubhub through natural voice conversations. This enhancement is designed to make the food ordering process more interactive, mimicking the feel of talking to a restaurant staff or using a drive-thru.
How the new ordering works
Alexa+ users can now simply mention the type of cuisine they want, browse menus, ask questions, and personalize their meal choices all within a single conversation. Changes to the order—such as adding desserts or adjusting quantities—can be made instantly. To get started, users just have to link their Grubhub or Uber Eats accounts through the Alexa app. Once synced, past orders are available for quick reordering, and Alexa+ provides a complete order summary, including item details and prices.
Availability and future expansion
This new feature is initially rolling out to customers with Echo Show 8 and larger devices. Amazon notes that this move is part of their larger effort to create more adaptive interaction models, with plans to extend similar conversational features to areas like grocery shopping and travel bookings soon.
AI and the food industry
AI assistants are becoming increasingly popular in the food industry, though not without some challenges. Other companies have encountered difficulties with AI-driven ordering, such as errors and misunderstandings that have affected order accuracy. Despite setbacks by some fast food chains, Amazon is pushing forward with improvements through Alexa+.
Recent Alexa+ updates
Since launching Alexa+ in the U.S. and more recently in the U.K., Amazon has rolled out several new features, including additional personality styles and options for more personalized interactions.
